O Rage Against the Machine saiu vitorioso na campanha contra o reality show “The X Factor” e tem a música com mais downloads no Natal 2009 no Reino Unido. Segundo o semanário NME, “Killing in the Name”, da banda de Los Angeles, vendeu 50 mil cópias digitais a mais que Joe MacElderry, vencedor do programa e que ficou famoso com o cover de “The Climb”, hit de Miley Cyrus.
“Isso é loucura, não posso acreditar. É absolutamente insano. Mas mostrou que se você usar as redes sociais do jeito certo, pode fazer o que quiser”, disse Jon Morter, fã responsável pela campanha, que contou com o apoio do guitarrista Tom Morello.
No dia 13 de dezembro, Morter começou uma campanha no Facebook para que os fãs colocassem a banda no topo do ranking de downloads. O objetivo era acabar com a hegemonia do programa “The X Factor”, já que há cinco anos seguidos o vencedor do programa tem a música mais baixada no Natal.
