“Drop Dead Diva” é o mais novo sucesso de Josh Berman, produtor executivo e roteirista de “CSI” e “Bones”. As investigações e os dramas policiais dão lugar a uma comédia muito bem escrita, que rompeu com os padrões de beleza graças ao talento e carisma de sua protagonista, a advogada Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott).
Jane Bingum, uma advogada fora do peso e insegura, tem sua vida mudada quando o espírito da modelo Deb (Brooke D’Orsay), uma loira fútil e burra, acaba reencarnando em seu corpo.
Deb morre em um acidente de carro e quando chega ao céu descobre que está zerada: sem pecados ou boas ações. A modelo acaba apertando um botão que não devia no céu e vai parar no corpo de Jane, que estava na mesa de cirurgia, após levar um tiro dentro de seu escritório.
Com Jane sendo guiada pelo espírito de Deb, ela passa a se preocupar mais com a aparência, fazendo uma junção da sensibilidade (e um pouquinho de futilidade) da modelo com a inteligência da advogada.
A série estreou no dia 12 de julho no canal Lifetime e no próximo dia 11 encerrará sua primeira temporada, com o episódio “Grayson’s Anatomy”, com um segundo ano garantido pela emissora norte-americana. “Drop Dead Diva” é frequentemente comparada com “Ugly Betty”, que também quebra os padrões de beleza graças a sua protagonista.
O sucesso do seriado se dá graças a atriz Brooke Elliott, praticamente uma estreante na televisão norte-americana. Antes de protagonizar “Drop Dead Diva”, Elliott havia feito apenas pequenas participações na série “Law & Order”, em 2005, e um bico no filme “Do Que as Mulheres Gostam” (2000), estrelado por Mel Gibson.
Além dos bicos na televisão, Brooke Elliott já fez parte de dois musicais da Broadway: “The Pirate Queen”, escrito por Claude-Michel Schömberg e Alain boublil, responsáveis pela adaptação de “Les Misérables”; e “Taboo”, que conta com trilha sonora assinada pelo cantor Boy George.
“Drop Dead Diva” está prevista para estrear no mês de novembro no Brasil. A série será exibida no país pelo canal Sony.
